Virginia Beach Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Fentanyl Trafficking and Firearm Charge
A Virginia Beach man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation. Marcus Hughes, 32, was sentenced on April 29, 2024, for possessing with intent to distribute 14,000 tablets of fentanyl and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
According to court documents, Hughes was pulled over for a traffic stop after exiting the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The police discovered in his vehicle 14,000 tablets of fentanyl, one kilogram of cocaine, and a loaded .40 caliber handgun. He was returning from Rhode Island, where he had picked up the drugs from the source of supply. There were also two small children in the vehicle, ages 4 and 7.
Hughes’ co-conspirator, Deshowna Corprew, 30, was sentenced to 44 months in prison on the same charges. The sentences were handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge Rebecca Beach Smith.
Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Jarod Forget, Special Agent in Charge for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Division, made the announcement after sentencing.
The Virginia Beach Police Department provided significant contributions to the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Muhr is prosecuting the case.
