New Orleans, Louisiana – Marlon Santos, a 36-year-old native of Honduras, has been caught in the clutches of justice for illegal re-entry into the United States. The grimy details of Santos’ transgression were announced by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson on July 9, 2025.
According to court documents, Santos was apprehended in Orleans Parish on April 21, 2025. A man with a troubled past, Santos had been previously removed to Honduras on December 21, 2018, but he managed to slip back into the country’s clutches.
The sentence awaiting Santos is as severe as his crime. He could face up to two years of imprisonment, not to mention a fine reaching $250,000 and mandatory supervised release for an additional year. United States District Judge Lance M. Africk has scheduled the sentencing hearing for October 22, 2025.
This case is a vital part of Operation Take Back America, a formidable nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). The operation coordinates efforts from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), ensuring a full-scale response to the threat posed by violent crime.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson offered high praise for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which played a pivotal role in the investigation leading to Santos’ capture. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit is overseeing the prosecution, ensuring that justice is served.
Santos now stands at the precipice of his own making, having violated the very laws meant to protect our communities. The grim reality of his sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who choose the path of illegal re-entry into this nation.
