LOUISVILLE, KY – A federal judge handed down a harsh sentence yesterday to a 43-year-old Elizabethtown man who distributed and possessed child pornography.
According to court documents, Martin Hoag used the internet on two occasions to send child pornography to an undercover agent and possessed, on two separate hard drives, child pornography that involved a minor who had not attained 12 years of age.
Hoag was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison followed by a 10-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
In addition to the 151-month prison sentence, Hoag was ordered to pay restitution to three victims in the amount of $3,000 each, a $15,000 special assessment, and a $5,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Spencer McKiness prosecuted the case. Hoag’s crimes are a stark reminder of the severity of child pornography and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
The investigation and prosecution of child pornography cases are a top priority for federal law enforcement agencies. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
