A 36-year-old Martin, South Dakota man has been sentenced for distributing a controlled substance.
Ashley Cottier, 36, was sentenced to time served, 3 years’ supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, on May 29, 2013.
Cottier was convicted of distributing a prescription drug, Fentanyl, at Martin, South Dakota on June 6, 2012.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services, the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Martin Police Department, and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura A. Shattuck prosecuted the case.
Cottier pled guilty to the charge on January 28, 2013.
The sentencing comes after a thorough investigation into Cottier’s involvement in the distribution of Fentanyl, a highly addictive and potent opioid.
