A rogue cop in Boston got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, swiping $21,220 in PPP loan cash meant for small businesses struggling to stay afloat during the pandemic.

Damian Halfkenny, 54, a retired Massachusetts State Police Sergeant, submitted a fake application for his real estate business, claiming he had a monthly payroll expense of $8,488.

The scam was cooked up in March 2021, when Halfkenny applied for the loan, providing a fabricated IRS Schedule C to back up his bogus claims.

Thanks to a probe by the FBI, Halfkenny’s scheme was exposed, and now he’s facing up to 20 years in the slammer, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
