MASSILLON, OHIO – A disturbing case of child exploitation has hit the Northern District of Ohio, as Gregory Allen Mays, 53, from Massillon, was charged with producing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Mays is accused of his heinous acts between June 14, 2013, and July 23, 2013. According to the indictment, Mays used persuasion, inducement, enticement, and coercion to involve a minor in sexually explicit activities, with the intent of producing visual content for such purposes. The production and transmission of these materials were facilitated through interstate and foreign commerce, including computer-mediated means.
Should Mays be convicted, his sentence will be determined by the Court based on federal sentencing guidelines, taking into account factors like his prior criminal history, role in the offense, and unique characteristics of the violation. However, it’s important to note that any sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and is generally lower than this cap.
This case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Carol M. Skutnik, while the investigation was led by the Canton Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Although an indictment is merely a charge and not proof of guilt, Mays will have the right to a fair trial where the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against child exploitation and cybercrime. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to the safety of children.
