SHREVEPORT, La. – Mathew Mark Moreno, 51, of Montgomery, Alabama, has been sentenced to 84 months (7 years) in prison, followed by 4 years of supervised release, for his role in drug trafficking in the Western District of Louisiana.
On February 11, 2019, Moreno was stopped on I-10 near Lake Charles for a traffic violation. The officers found 767 grams of powder cocaine inside the rear passenger compartment of the vehicle. On May 3, 2019, Moreno was stopped again on I-20 near Shreveport for another traffic violation. This time, the officers found 111 grams of heroin, 402 grams of powder cocaine, and 541 grams of Alprazolam in the trunk of the vehicle.
Chief Judge S. Maurice Hicks, Jr. handed down the sentence on May 6, 2021. Moreno pleaded guilty to the charge on the same day. The DEA and Louisiana State Police conducted the investigations into the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Seth D. Reeg and Cadesby B. Cooper prosecuted the case.
