Buffalo, N.Y. – A Jamestown man has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography. Matthew Bailer, 33, of Jamestown, NY, was taken into custody after a warrant was issued in connection with a burglary case out of Missouri. During a search of Bailer’s phone, investigators recovered hundreds of images of child pornography.
According to court documents, the Jamestown Police Department received a complaint from a parent in July 2018 that her minor children may have been sexually abused by Bailer. The parent stated that she was told by Bailer’s sister that she found a series of concerning pictures on Bailer’s phone. The images, which were recovered during the search, show sexually explicit conduct by prepubescent and pubescent children, both male and female.
Bailer made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder on [no date specified]. He is being detained pending further proceedings. The charge against Bailer carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
