Bank Robber Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison
A Portland man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a brazen bank robbery in 2014. Matthieu O’Rourke, 36, was sentenced to 100 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his role in the robbery.
According to court records, O’Rourke entered a Key Bank branch in Portland on September 27, 2013, wearing a construction vest, sunglasses, and a hat. He handed a teller a note demanding cash and stole $1,280 from the bank.
O’Rourke was arrested in Rivera Beach, Florida, on October 30, 2013, and later pleaded guilty to the charges. At the sentencing hearing, O’Rourke was subject to an enhanced sentence as a career offender due to his prior convictions, including a 1998 conviction for solicitation to commit murder. He received an eight-year sentence for that crime.
The case was investigated by the Portland Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the United States Marshals Service. Assistant United States Attorney David B. Joyce represented the government in the case.
O’Rourke’s sentence marks the end of a long and complex case. The brazen bank robbery shocked the community and led to a thorough investigation by local and federal authorities.
