ANNISTON, Ala. – In a shocking turn of events, Maximiliano Pablo-Cinto, a 41-year-old native of Mexico, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for illegally re-entering the U.S. after deportation. Pablo-Cinto, a citizen of Guatemala, pleaded guilty to the crime, according to U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.
United States District Judge Corey L. Maze handed down the sentence following Pablo-Cinto’s guilty plea. The defendant’s history with the law is nothing short of checkered, with a prior conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Pablo-Cinto was previously convicted on November 27, 2017, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and sentenced to 45 months in prison.
However, Pablo-Cinto’s troubles didn’t end there. On February 7, 2019, he was removed from the United States. Yet, he seemed to have a change of heart, or perhaps a change of plan, as he failed to appear in court on charges for fraud and identity theft in Albertville, Alabama. It was then that the Albertville Police Department arrested him on February 7, 2025, leading to his transfer into federal custody.
Homeland Security Investigations, in collaboration with the Albertville Police Department, investigated the case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Leann White took on the task of prosecuting the defendant. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating the scourge of illegal immigration and protecting communities from perpetrators of violent crime.
Pablo-Cinto’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of breaking the law. As he begins his 18-month stint behind bars, one can’t help but wonder what drove him to make the ill-fated decision to re-enter the country illegally.
The case highlights the need for vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies to combat the complex issue of immigration-related crimes. As we continue to navigate the complexities of our nation’s immigration laws, it’s cases like Pablo-Cinto’s that serve as a harsh reminder of the importance of upholding the law.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona underscored the significance of Operation Take Back America, saying, ‘This nationwide initiative marshals the full resources of the federal government to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.’
