GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A 46-year-old Maypearl podiatrist faces federal prison for a double-dip of fraud. Shannon Gallentine, the culprit at Ambulatory Foot Care in Lancaster, Texas, pleaded guilty to health care and income tax fraud.
Gallentine, sentenced by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield, will serve 24 months behind bars. The podiatrist’s fraudulent activities, which occurred between January 2004 and May 2007, netted him over $365,000 in false Medicare claims for procedures he never performed.
But that’s not all; Gallentine also dodged his taxes, failing to file returns for 2004 and 2005. This led to additional penalties, including restitution of $391,628.08 to Medicare, $110,622.59 to Medicaid, and $26,628.08 to Blue Cross Blue Shield.
U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced the sentencing on Jan. 31, 2013. Gallentine was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2011 and is set to report to the U.S. Marshals Service on Mar. 18, 2013.
This case has been a joint effort of the FBI, HHS-OIG, IRS, DEA, Texas OAG-MFCU, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas, all working under Assistant U.S. Attorney James Peacock to bring Gallentine to justice.
