MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Nathan Rex Upton, 35, of McAlester, Oklahoma, will spend the next two decades behind bars after being sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for possessing material involving the sexual exploitation of a minor. The sentence, handed down by Chief Judge Ronald A. White of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, sends a grim message: exploiting children carries severe consequences.
The case unfolded after a search warrant was executed at Upton’s McAlester residence on October 20, 2022. Law enforcement – a joint task force comprised of the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and the United States Secret Service – seized multiple computer hard drives. What they found was horrifying: over 16,000 images depicting the sexual abuse of children, a digital warehouse of depravity.
Upton pleaded guilty to the charge on November 1, 2023, admitting to possessing the sickening material. Assistant United States Attorney Caila M. Cleary prosecuted the case, ensuring Upton faced the full weight of the law. The non-paroleable sentence means Upton will serve the entire 20-year term with no opportunity for early release.
