Adnan Arshad, the owner of a Long Island ambulette services company, was sentenced to 97 months in prison for his role in a multimillion-dollar healthcare fraud scheme. The sentence was handed down in federal court in Central Islip, where Arshad was also ordered to pay forfeiture of over $19 million, including the forfeiture of several real properties and vehicles.

The scheme involved Arshad financing a lavish lifestyle with the stolen funds, purchasing multimillion-dollar homes and luxury vehicles. The investigation was led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation, and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

According to authorities, Arshad and his co-conspirators orchestrated the scheme to siphon off tens of millions of dollars from the Medicaid program for transportation services that were never provided. The investigation and subsequent prosecution demonstrate the government’s commitment to holding accountable those who exploit federal healthcare programs for personal gain.

The case was announced by United States Attorney Joseph Nocella, Jr., who expressed his appreciation for the work of the Office of the New York State Comptroller and the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the New York State Attorney General’s Office.
