Health Care Con Artist Busted in Miami
In a brazen display of greed, Magaly Travieso, a 53-year-old Miami resident, has been charged with conspiracy to commit health care fraud. According to sources, Travieso, an advanced practitioner registered nurse, and her former spouse, Yudorki Ramirez, 52, have been allegedly fleecing the system with a scheme that’s netted them over $4 million in ill-gotten gains.
The alleged ringleader, Travieso, owned ProMed Healthcare, L.L.C., a medical clinic that purportedly provided services to beneficiaries with commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicare Advantage Plans, as well as Medicaid recipients. However, between March 2019 and January 2023, Travieso allegedly conspired with others to submit over $20 million in fraudulent claims, with ProMed reaping over $10 million in reimbursement.
Once the health care fraud proceeds were deposited into ProMed’s bank accounts, Travieso and Ramirez allegedly used the funds for their personal benefit. The list of extravagances is jaw-dropping, with Travieso splurging $75,000 on a 2021 Land Rover Range Rover, which was purchased in the name of ProMed, and shelling out $750,000 on her Miami residence. Ramirez, too, wasn’t left out, allegedly spending $141,923.02 on his Miami residence and transferring $2,068,904.55 to his investment accounts.
On June 2024, law enforcement seized Travieso’s Range Rover and over $4 million in health care fraud proceeds from bank accounts belonging to Travieso and Ramirez. The investigation is being led by the FBI Miami Field Office, the Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, and the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Egozi is prosecuting the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Paster handling asset forfeiture. The case is currently ongoing, with no sentencing date set. Magaly Travieso is facing conspiracy to commit health care fraud charges, while Yudorki Ramirez has been charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering. Both defendants are Miami residents.
The alleged health care scam has left many wondering how such a brazen scheme could have gone unnoticed for so long. As the investigation continues, one thing is clear: Magaly Travieso and Yudorki Ramirez will have to answer to the law for their alleged crimes.
