A St. Louis chiropractor and his partners in crime peddled pain pills to unsuspecting patients, ripping off Medicaid, Medicare, and Tricare for millions. Jerry Leech, 53, of Clayton, got 100 months in the slammer for his role in the racket.
Leech, along with co-conspirators Dr. Stanley Librach of Chesterfield and Dr. Asim Muhammad Ali of Creve Coeur, pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud, controlled substance charges, and other counts in 2021.
The scheme involved writing fake prescriptions for powerful painkillers like oxycodone, often without even examining patients. Leech encouraged the doctors to keep doling out the pills, even when the patients’ urine tests showed they weren’t taking them or were using other, non-prescribed substances.
Leech also exchanged fake prescriptions for cash and other perks with his co-conspirators. The whole operation netted him and his partners at least $4.7 million in phony reimbursements.
