Bradley Isaiah Davis, a 36-year-old enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, has been charged with assault and child abuse in federal court. The alleged incident occurred on February 25, 2026, at Davis’ residence in New Mexico, where he allegedly prevented the victim from leaving, struck them multiple times in the face, and strangled them. The victim, who suffered a fractured nasal bone, head contusion, and facial swelling, was eventually able to escape and seek medical treatment.
The investigation into Davis revealed a history of prior assaults and strangulation against the same victim, dating back to 2023. Witnesses reported observing one of the assaults and intervening to stop the attack. During an interview with investigators, Davis allegedly admitted to striking the victim in the face and choking them during a 2023 assault.
Davis is charged with assault causing serious bodily injury, assault by strangling and/or suffocating, and child abuse. He will remain in custody pending trial, which has not been scheduled. If convicted, Davis faces up to 13 years in prison.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Zuni Police Department investigated the case, with assistance from the Las Cruces Branch Office of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico. A criminal complaint is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
