Mesquite Man Sentenced for Child Pornography Possession
A 41-year-old Mesquite man has been sentenced to 40 months in federal prison for possessing child pornography, federal authorities announced.
Christopher Vernon George was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey following his guilty plea in October 2012 to an Information charging one count of possession of child pornography. George was ordered to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on March 4, 2013.
The investigation into George’s activities began with a probe into the website ‘liberalmorality.com,’ which offered sexually explicit images and videos of minor children for download. Investigators identified an IP address associated with George and executed a state search warrant at his residence in Garland, Texas, seizing his computer and external storage media.
A forensic analysis of the seized items identified more than 3,000 images and eight videos of child pornography that George had downloaded from the Internet. George admitted to downloading and viewing child pornography for 15 years.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
The case was investigated by ICE HSI and the Garland Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Camille Sparks in charge of the prosecution. The sentence is a result of George’s admitted guilt and the evidence gathered by investigators.
