Meth Conspiracy Lands Sioux Falls Man 10-Year Prison Sentence

A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that spanned the District of South Dakota and other areas. Kok Put Kach, a/k/a “Cookie”, age 35, was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on February 3, 2020.

Kach was convicted of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, a charge that stems from his involvement in a scheme to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance. He was also ordered to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund as part of his sentence.

According to court documents, Kach and his co-defendant James Ayur Garang, a/k/a “Ayur,” and a/k/a “Mike”, conspired to distribute methamphetamine between an unknown date and October 2018. Garang was also sentenced to 10 years in custody and 5 years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The case against Kach and Garang was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Sioux Falls Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tamara Nash prosecuted the case, which was made possible by a federal grand jury indictment on November 6, 2018.

Kach and Garang’s guilty pleas marked a significant blow to a major methamphetamine trafficking operation in the region. The sentencing serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that individuals face when they engage in such activity.

Kach was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing. The case serves as a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies to combating the scourge of methamphetamine trafficking in South Dakota.
