FORT WORTH, Texas – A trio of methamphetamine distributors was sentenced to federal prison terms for their roles in a massive conspiracy to distribute the highly addictive substance.
Angela Cupit, 41, was sentenced to 360 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge John McBryde. Shawn Travis Cathey, 44, received the same sentence, while Phillip Schenck, 41, will serve 480 months behind bars. All three pleaded guilty in August 2015 to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
According to court documents, the defendants were involved in a massive conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the Northern District of Texas. They were aided by six co-defendants, who pleaded guilty in August 2015 and are awaiting sentencing.
The six co-defendants, who face statutory penalties of not less than 5 years and up to 40 years’ imprisonment in federal prison and a $5 million fine, are:
Eric Summers, 40, of Arlington, Texas
James Gatlin, 40, of Garland, Texas
David Godinez, 35, of Dallas, Texas
Ismael Rico, 32, of Dallas, Texas
Matthew Ryan Thompson, 44, of Mineral Wells, Texas
Celeste Monte Blair, 45, of Jacksonville, Florida
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Smith was in charge of the prosecution.
The sentencing of these defendants is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in North Texas, and a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies in the region.
