Gregory Keith McCoy, a 56-year-old Casper man, was involved in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking organization operating in Wyoming and Colorado. On September 24, 2025, law enforcement attempted to stop McCoy near Sinclair after a drug-detection dog alerted to the presence of controlled substances in his vehicle. However, McCoy fled, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit that spanned over 70 miles and reached speeds of up to 130 mph. The pursuit ended with the recovery of approximately 1,020 grams of methamphetamine, 67.5 grams of heroin, 13.2 grams of fentanyl pills, less than 1 gram of LSD, and 50.6 grams of marijuana from the vehicle and items discarded during the chase.
McCoy’s actions were part of a broader conspiracy, which was investigated by the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI), with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and multiple state and local agencies. The investigation, which began in 2025, identified McCoy as one of the conspirators selling large quantities of methamphetamine in and around Natrona County.
On August 10, U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl sentenced McCoy to 132 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. U.S. Attorney Darin Smith stated that McCoy’s sentence serves as a reminder that the rule of law cannot be outrun by speed or deterred by desperation.
The case highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking organizations. McCoy’s sentence is a testament to the dedication of these agencies in pursuing and prosecuting those involved in such crimes.
