A Springdale man has been sentenced to over 17 years in federal prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation in Northwest Arkansas.
Raul Martinez, 40, was handed a 210-month prison sentence, followed by five years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $25,000 in fines for the distribution of more than 500 grams of methamphetamine.
The sentencing hearing was presided over by the Honorable Timothy L. Brooks in the United States District Court in Fayetteville.
According to court records, Martinez was identified by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a distributor of methamphetamine in the region, leading to an investigation into his activities.
In December 2019, DEA agents and local law enforcement conducted a controlled delivery of methamphetamine from Martinez, which was subsequently tested and found to contain 1306.2 grams of actual methamphetamine.
Martinez was indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2019 and entered a guilty plea in September of the same year.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Benton County/Rogers Police Department Narcotic Unit, the Springdale Police Department, and the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force. Assistant United States Attorneys Amy Driver and Kim Harris prosecuted the case for the United States.
