Meth Kingpin Sentenced to 262 Months in Prison
BREAKING: A Tennessee man has been sentenced to 262 months in federal prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.
According to court documents, 42-year-old Gorge ‘Chico’ Duarte of Mohawk, Tennessee, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge J. Ronnie Greer for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the Eastern District of Tennessee.
Duarte admitted to being responsible for at least 500 grams but less than 1.5 kilograms of actual methamphetamine, as part of his plea agreement on file with U.S. District Court.
The investigation into Duarte’s meth distribution network was a result of a collaborative effort between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Hamblen County Sheriff’s Department, and Third Judicial Drug Task Force.
Duarte’s sentence was handed down despite serving a term of supervised release for a prior federal conviction, conspiracy to distribute cocaine in the Eastern District of Tennessee. He was ordered to serve an additional 37 months consecutive to the 262 months for violating his supervised release.
The case is a result of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program, which was established in 1982 to conduct comprehensive, multi-level attacks on major drug trafficking and money laundering organizations.
Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Christian Lampe represented the United States in court proceedings. The OCDETF program combines the resources and expertise of its member federal agencies in cooperation with state and local law enforcement to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the most serious drug trafficking and money laundering organizations.
The investigation into Duarte’s meth distribution network is a prime example of the effectiveness of the OCDETF program in reducing the nation’s drug supply.
