Meth Kingpin Sentenced to 262 Months in Prison
A notorious methamphetamine dealer from Morristown, Tennessee, has been sentenced to 262 months in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute the deadly substance in east Tennessee.
Jason Wayne Helton, also known as ‘Crack Baby,’ was convicted of selling large quantities of methamphetamine to an undercover informant on multiple occasions between December 2015 and March 2016, according to court documents.
Helton’s downfall began in February 2016, when a federal search warrant was executed at a residence in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where he was present and planning to obtain and transport a significant quantity of methamphetamine back to Tennessee.
Just a month later, another federal search warrant was executed at Helton’s residence in Morristown, resulting in the seizure of even more methamphetamine.
The investigation, which involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Grainger County Sheriff’s Office, and the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office, was a result of the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Wayne Taylor represented the United States in the case, which aimed to disrupt and dismantle the most serious drug trafficking organizations responsible for the nation’s drug supply.
Helton’s sentence is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in east Tennessee, and a testament to the hard work and determination of law enforcement agencies working together to keep our communities safe.
The OCDETF program, established in 1982, combines the resources and expertise of federal agencies with state and local law enforcement to identify, disrupt, and dismantle major drug trafficking and money laundering organizations.
