Curtis Earl Tucker Jr, Meth Trafficking, Ohio 2024

AKRON, OH – Curtis Earl Tucker, Jr., 36, is facing serious federal time after being indicted on charges of drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession, according to Acting U.S. Attorney David A. Sierleja. The indictment paints a picture of a repeat offender brazenly flouting the law, allegedly stockpiling both narcotics and weaponry.

Tucker, also known as Reginald T. Shannon, stands accused of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. The alleged offenses date back to March 9, 2017, when authorities say Tucker was caught with over 500 grams of methamphetamine – a substantial quantity – alongside a deadly quartet of handguns.

The indictment specifically lists the seized firearms as a Smith & Wesson SDVE, 9mm pistol; a Colt Trooper MK3, .357 magnum revolver; a Ruger, model P95, 9 mm pistol; and an Armi Tan Foglio .25 caliber pistol. Ammunition for these weapons was also reportedly recovered. What makes this case particularly damning is Tucker’s prior federal conviction for distribution of crack cocaine, which legally barred him from owning any firearms.

Federal prosecutors are leaving no stone unturned, promising a thorough review of Tucker’s criminal history and role in the alleged offenses before seeking a sentence. While the statutory maximum remains undefined at this stage, authorities emphasized that any sentence will be tailored to the specifics of the case. It’s a stark warning to anyone attempting to profit from the misery of drug addiction while simultaneously arming themselves.

The investigation leading to the indictment was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Akron Police Department’s Narcotics Unit, demonstrating a coordinated push to dismantle drug and gun networks in the city. Assistant United States Attorney David M. Toepfer is handling the prosecution, signaling the seriousness with which the Department of Justice views this case.

It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is merely an accusation. Tucker is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. He is entitled to a full and fair trial, where the government bears the burden of proving his guilt. But the evidence, as presented in the indictment, suggests a dangerous combination of drugs and firearms that law enforcement is determined to keep off Akron’s streets.
