Mexican Man Charged with Illegal Firearm Possession

Antonio Osorio Diaz, a 41-year-old Mexican national, has been charged with being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm in the Eastern District of Louisiana.

According to a one-count indictment, Diaz was found in possession of a Ruger .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol on February 3, 2019. The indictment alleges that he was an illegal alien from Mexico who had never been previously deported.

United States Attorney Peter G. Strasser announced the charges against Diaz, who faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release, as well as a $100.00 special assessment fee if convicted.

Strasser reiterates that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The investigation into Diaz’s case was led by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, and Assistant United States Attorney Carter K.D. Guice, Jr. will be in charge of the prosecution.

Diaz’s case is a stark reminder of the importance of enforcing laws related to firearm possession and immigration. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who break these laws are held accountable.

The indictment against Diaz serves as a warning to anyone who would seek to possess a firearm illegally. The consequences of such actions can be severe, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office will not hesitate to pursue charges in cases like this.

As this case moves forward, the public will be kept informed of any developments or updates. In the meantime, the U.S. Attorney’s Office remains committed to protecting the citizens of Louisiana and upholding the law.
