BOSTON – In a stunning turn of events, Ausencio Flores Salazar, a 34-year-old Mexican national, has pleaded guilty to the serious charge of illegal reentry into the United States after being deported. The gritty details of this federal case were made public yesterday.
Flores Salazar faced one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien, a charge that carries severe penalties. U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman has set sentencing for August 27, 2025, in what promises to be a pivotal hearing.
The defendant was first deported to Mexico in 2019 but managed to slip back into the country clandestinely. His illegal return was detected when he was apprehended in Shrewsbury on or about May 12, 2025. The gravity of his actions cannot be understated, as Flores Salazar had been legally removed from the United States.
Under federal law, unlawful reentry of a deported alien is a crime that can result in up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine reaching $250,000. It’s a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who defy the legal orders of immigration authorities.
Upon completion of any sentence imposed, Flores Salazar will once again be subject to deportation. Sentences are determined by federal district court judges based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes, which govern criminal cases in the United States.
The announcement was made jointly by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by immigration enforcement agencies in combating illegal reentry into the country.
