Mexican National Guilty of Illegal Re-entry

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Fernando Cartugano-Sol, 27, a citizen and national of Mexico, has pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry by an already removed alien.

Cartugano-Sol was immediately sentenced to time served by U.S. Judge William M. Skretny.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango, on June 18, 2013, Cartugano-Sol was found working on a farm in Mount Morris, N.Y. When confronted by law enforcement officers, the defendant admitted that he was in the United States illegally.

An immigration record check revealed that Cartugano-Sol had been removed from the United States previously on September 8, 2011, and had not made a legal entry into the country.

The investigation into Cartugano-Sol’s illegal re-entry was led by United States Customs and Border Protection Officers, under the direction of James Engleman, Director of Field Operations.

This case serves as a reminder of the consequences of attempting to re-enter the United States without proper authorization.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of New York, will continue to prosecute individuals who break our nation’s immigration laws.
