Mexican National Sentenced to 6 Years for Meth Conspiracy
A 23-year-old Mexican national has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.
Jose Mejia-Fraijo, who resided in Sioux City, Iowa, pleaded guilty on January 25, 2016, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Mejia-Fraijo admitted to being involved in a conspiracy that distributed at least 500 grams of actual methamphetamine from September 2015 through November 2015.
Mejia-Fraijo further admitted to obtaining the methamphetamine from sources in Colorado for further distribution in Sioux City, Iowa.
U.S. District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the 72-month prison term on May 10, 2016. Mejia-Fraijo was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment and serve a two-year term of supervised release after his prison term.
Mejia-Fraijo is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, which consists of law enforcement personnel from various agencies, including the DEA, Sioux City Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations.
