RALEIGH – In a stunning move against immigration fraud and illegal reentry, John Stuart Bruce, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announced that a federal grand jury in Raleigh has indicted six Mexican nationals.
The defendants include RAUNEL BENITEZ-GOROSTIETA, 42, ENRIQUE ESTRADA-NOYOLA, 43, JONATAN GONZALEZ-VELASQUEZ, 24, JORGE HERNANDEZ-BARAHONA, 41, SILVESTER ROGEL-GANDARIA, 34, and JOSE ALBERTO TREVINO-CHAVEZ, 58.
ESTRADA-NOYOLA, GONZALEZ-VELASQUEZ, HERNANDEZ-BARAHONA, and ROGEL-GANDARIA face up to two years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release if convicted of Illegal Reentry of a Deported Alien.
TREVINO-CHAVEZ, who has a prior felony conviction for trafficking marijuana by possession, faces a maximum of 10 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release if found guilty.
BENITEZ-GOROSTIETA, with a prior aggravated felony conviction for voluntary manslaughter, is looking at a sentence of up to twenty years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release if convicted.
The accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Department of Homeland Security is leading the investigation.
