Miami-Dade resident Miguel Rosenfeld has pleaded guilty to filing a false individual income tax return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), according to a statement from the Department of Justice. Rosenfeld, an agent for several top telenovela writers in Latin America, was charged in September 2016 with one count of filing a false federal income tax return, violating Title 26, United States Code, Section 7206(1).
Court documents reveal that Rosenfeld failed to report all his income on his 2007 Form 1040. He reported a total income of approximately $1,032,584 but knewingly underreported it by nearly $218,000. The IRS-CI led the investigation.
Scheduled for sentencing on February 27, 2017, Rosenfeld could face up to three years in prison and a fine of $250,000. U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of IRS-CI in this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael R. Sherwin is prosecuting the case on behalf of the Southern District of Florida. More information can be found at www.flsd.uscourts.gov or http://pacer.flsd.uscourts.gov.
