Micah Moore, Machinegun Possession, Indiana 2022

A convicted felon from Indianapolis has been indicted for possessing machinegun conversion devices and ammunition, according to federal authorities.

Micah Moore, 31, was charged with possession of a machinegun and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon after a federal grand jury indictment. Moore has three prior felony convictions, including robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

The indictment alleges that on July 17, 2022, Moore was in possession of three auto sears and multiple live rounds of ammunition. Auto sears are conversion devices designed to convert semiautomatic rifles into fully automatic machineguns, which are prohibited under federal law.

Moore is federally prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his prior convictions. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelsey L. Massa, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) investigated the case in conjunction with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence, is also involved in the case. The program brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make neighborhoods safer.

An indictment is merely an allegation, and Moore is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
