Machine Gun Charge: Youngstown Man Arrested
A 28-year-old Youngstown man is facing federal charges after allegedly possessing a machine gun and an unregistered firearm, authorities announced today.
Marlin Black, 28, was charged with two counts of illegal possession of a machine gun and receipt or possession of an unregistered firearm, according to U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman.
The charges stem from a July 31, 2020, domestic violence dispute that turned violent, with gunshots fired. The victim claimed that Black had allegedly fired a gun towards her.
Youngstown Police responded to the scene and arrested Black, recovering four firearms, ammunition, and narcotics. A search warrant was later obtained for Black’s residence, where officers found a Glock model 17 with a machine gun conversion device attached.
The firearm was not registered to Black in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, as required by law.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt, Herdman emphasized. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial, where it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Yasmine Makridis is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Youngstown Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). If convicted, Black’s sentence will be determined by the court after reviewing factors unique to the case, including his prior criminal record and role in the offense.
