A 39-year-old man from Grand Island, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 112 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Michael Eugene West was arrested on July 26, 2021, after a police officer attempted to stop him for driving erratically. West continued driving for several blocks before stopping and was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Later that evening, a resident contacted the police to report finding a bag of suspected drugs on the sidewalk. Although the resident left the bag for the police to retrieve, West admitted to throwing the drugs out of the window during a phone call from the jail.
An investigation by the Grand Island Police Department and the Tri Cities Drug Enforcement Team (TRIDENT) revealed that the substance was 24 grams of actual or pure methamphetamine.

On September 28, 2022, United States District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced West to 112 months’ imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system.
After his release from prison, West will begin a 4-year term of supervised release.
