Quincy Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Methamphetamine Charge in Iowa

A Quincy man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy operating out of Burlington, Iowa.

Michael Rees, 40, was sentenced to 151 months in prison by United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey on August 25, 2021, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

Rees was also found to have possessed a firearm related to his drug trafficking activities and was under criminal justice supervision at the time of the offense.

Rees was one of eight defendants who faced federal charges in the Southern District of Iowa after a multi-year joint federal and state investigation into the methamphetamine conspiracy.

The investigation, which culminated in the execution of search warrants in various locations, including Burlington, on November 19, 2019, was a collaborative effort involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the West Central Illinois Taskforce, the Quincy, Illinois Police Department, the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Taskforce, the Burlington Police Department, and the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods. This program brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
