Micia Best, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2024

A Mount Carmel woman was sentenced to 15 years behind bars for her role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Micia Best, 45, of Mount Carmel, was handed down the prison term by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Matthew W. Brann after being convicted of possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the investigation revealed that Best was involved in moving substantial quantities of methamphetamine in Northumberland County.

The probe was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Alisan V. Martin prosecuting the case.

Best’s conviction is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.

The investigation into Best’s activities was one of several efforts made by the Department as part of its violent crime reduction strategy, which focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities and supporting community-based organizations that prevent violence.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam said, ‘The sentences handed down in this case demonstrate our commitment to holding accountable those who engage in violent and destructive crime.’

The sentence imposed on Best will be followed by four years of supervised release, during which time she will be required to comply with the terms set by the court.

The investigation into Best and others involved in the methamphetamine trafficking operation is ongoing, and the Department of Justice will continue to work to disrupt and dismantle these types of operations.

The Department’s efforts are aimed at making communities safer for everyone, and the sentence imposed on Best is a step in that direction.
