Middletown Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Trafficking Firearm

A 23-year-old Middletown man has been sentenced to five years in prison for possessing a firearm as part of a drug trafficking crime. Christopher Lawrence Spicer, 23, of Middletown, was sentenced in U.S. District Court today to 60 months in prison.

According to court documents, Spicer was involved in a high-speed chase in spring 2023 after being approached by law enforcement while driving a stolen Ford F-150 in a Middletown business parking lot. Spicer backed into a police cruiser and fled throughout Middletown at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour.

During the chase, Spicer ran a red light at the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Jackson Lane, before colliding with another vehicle and rendering his own vehicle disabled. He was arrested at the scene.

When officers searched Spicer’s truck, they discovered a loaded Romarm/Cugir Micro Draco 7.62x39mm pistol and more than 200 fentanyl pills. Spicer was charged federally in September 2023 and pleaded guilty in January 2024.

U.S. District Judge Douglas R. Cole imposed the sentence, which was announced by Kenneth L. Parker, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio; Daryl S. McCormick, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF); and Middletown Police Chief David Birk.

Assistant United States Attorney Ryan A. Keefe represented the United States in this case. The sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those involved in drug trafficking and firearm possession.

In a statement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said, “The sentence imposed today reflects the seriousness with which we take the crime of firearm trafficking and the dangers it poses to our communities.”
