Miguel Soto, Heroin Distribution, Connecticut 2015

A 31-year-old New Haven man was sentenced to 34 months in federal prison for his role in a large-scale heroin distribution ring, according to authorities.

Miguel Soto, also known as ‘Fat Boy,’ was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The investigation into the heroin ring was led by the DEA New Haven Task Force, FBI, and New Haven Police Department. The probe found that Wilson Vasquez, also known as ‘Pancho,’ would obtain bulk quantities of heroin and then distribute it through a network of street-level dealers in the Fair Haven neighborhood.

Soto allowed Vasquez and his associates to use his residence to package the heroin for street-level distribution. The investigation also revealed that Soto was not the only one involved in the operation, as 17 individuals were charged as a result of the probe.

During the investigation, law enforcement seized approximately 500 grams of raw heroin, three handguns, and five vehicles. Bank accounts containing more than $300,000 were also frozen.

Soto has been detained since his arrest on July 15, 2015. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin on April 12, 2016.

The DEA New Haven Task Force is comprised of members from several local police departments, including New Haven, Hamden, West Haven, North Haven, East Haven, Branford, Ansonia, Meriden, and Derby, as well as the U.S. Marshals Service.
