Boston Man Convicted in Fentanyl Distribution Conspiracy Pleads Guilty to Reentering US
Milton Jose Arias, a 32-year-old Dominican man, has pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States after deportation. According to the Grimy Times investigation, Arias was previously convicted in federal court in Boston of fentanyl distribution and fentanyl distribution conspiracy in July 2019.
In March 2020, Arias was removed from the United States. However, in January 2022, he was found to have unlawfully reentered the country without the necessary permission.
Arias pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry before U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs. The charge provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for April 4, 2023.
Prosecutors from the United States Attorney’s Office, led by U.S. Attorney Rachael S. Rollins, and Homeland Security Investigations in New England, led by Special Agent in Charge Matthew B. Millhollin, announced the guilty plea. Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of Rollins’ Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
Arias’ case highlights the ongoing issue of reentry into the United States after deportation. According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), there were over 100,000 individuals removed from the country in 2020, many of whom have since reentered the U.S.
The Grimy Times will continue to monitor the case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
