Somerville Tax Preparer Charged with False Tax Returns Scheme
BOSTON – A federal grand jury has indicted Yves Isidor, 67, for allegedly preparing false tax returns in the names of unsuspecting taxpayers. According to the indictment, Isidor operated under the name Tax and Realty Pro – a Malden tax preparation business – to file more than 1,200 tax returns in the names of clients, charging from $100 to $500 per return.
Isidor allegedly added false information to returns to claim deductions for fictitious medical and dental expenses, personal property taxes, gifts to charities, general sales taxes and unreimbursed employee business expenses. As a result, the indictment alleges that some taxpayers paid lower taxes than they owed and, in most cases, received tax refunds to which the taxpayers were not entitled, leading to hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses to the IRS.
The indictment alleges that Isidor’s scheme spanned from at least 2012 through 2016. He was arrested on April 14, 2023 and, following an initial appearance in federal court in Boston, was released on conditions and an unsecured bond.
Isidor faces five counts of aiding and assisting in the filing of false federal tax returns. Each charge provides for a sentence of up to three years in prison, one year of supervised release, a fine of $250,000 and restitution. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.
United States Attorney Rachael S. Rollins and Joleen D. Simpson, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation in Boston made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Victor A. Wild of Rollins’ Securities, Financial & Cyber Fraud Unit is prosecuting the case.
The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
