A Minneapolis, Minnesota man has been sentenced to 37 months in prison for his role in the sexual assault of a minor in South Dakota.
On February 5, 2012, Adam Standing Soldier, 25, engaged in a sexual act with a minor in the state of South Dakota.
The offense was discovered during a thorough investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Standing Soldier, who pleaded guilty to the charge on February 14, 2013, was sentenced by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, on May 31, 2013.
The court also ordered Standing Soldier to serve 5 years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura A. Shattuck prosecuted the case, ensuring that justice was served in this serious matter.
As a result of the sentencing, Standing Soldier was immediately remanded to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons to begin serving his 37-month sentence.
South Dakotans can rest a little easier knowing that a perpetrator of such a heinous crime is behind bars, where they belong.
