Kurbin Menaugh, Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Missouri 2021

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – This week brought a shake-up in the local crime scene as Kurbin Menaugh, 36, and Robert Terry, 44, found themselves staring down the barrel of serious federal charges. The duo has been charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute at least 50 grams of methamphetamine, according to a recent indictment unsealed by the Department of Justice USAO.

The allegations against Menaugh and Terry date back to early September 2021, where they are accused of plotting their illegal drug scheme. The indictment also hits Menaugh with an additional charge of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime, a move that could see him locked up for years.

Should they be found guilty, both defendants face a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum that stretches into life imprisonment. For his gun possession, Menaugh is looking at an extra five-year mandatory-minimum sentence to be served consecutively to any other sentence.

Despite the charges being just accusations, evidence will need to be presented to a federal trial jury before guilt can be established. This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a national effort led by the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.

Special Assistant U.S. Attorney James Kirkpatrick is tasked with prosecuting this case, while the Independence Police Department has been leading the investigation. It’s another gritty chapter in the ongoing battle against organized crime and drug trafficking.
