Mitchell Eugene Obrecht, 41, Sentenced for Possession of Child Pornography
A 41-year-old Carter Lake, Iowa resident, Mitchell Eugene Obrecht, has been sentenced to 97 months in prison for possession of child pornography.
On May 19, 2017, United States District Court Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger handed down the sentence, which will be followed by 10 years of supervised release after Obrecht’s imprisonment.
Obrecht pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with possession of child pornography on or about September 18, 2015. The charge stemmed from an investigation into the posting of a video and an image, each depicting child pornography, on a social networking site.
Law enforcement conducted a search warrant of Obrecht’s residence and located two computers containing over 1,000 images of child pornography.
The investigation was conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Carter Lake Iowa Police Department, and Douglas County Nebraska Sheriff’s Office.
This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Obrecht will serve his sentence in accordance with the law, and his case serves as a reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes.
