HARRISBURG, PA – In a stark reminder of the nation’s immigration laws, Jose Miguel Molina-Echavarria, a 40-year-old citizen of Mexico, was sentenced to time-served, nearly four months in prison, for his illegal reentry into the United States. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Joseph F. Saporito, Jr.
Molina-Echavarria’s criminal journey began when he was arrested on May 18, 2025, in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, for Driving Under the Influence and related charges. His prior removal from the U.S., a court order in 2024, made his arrest all the more significant.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus outlined that Molina-Echavarria pleaded guilty to illegal reentry following his indictment by a federal grand jury. The case was handled with an unwavering hand by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Francis P. Sempa and Tatum Wilson.
This sentence is part of the Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that targets illegal immigration and combats cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and violent crime. The operation leverages resources from various task forces within the Department to protect communities from such threats.
Despite his prison term, Molina-Echavarria faces additional hurdles. He is currently dealing with pending state charges in Franklin County and awaits deportation proceedings due to an ICE detainer being lodged against him.
