MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – The grim headlines of Cherokee County were once again illuminated by the stark reality of gun violence as Heath Tyler Bryan, a 33-year-old Tahlequah resident, entered a guilty plea to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the court documents painted a chilling picture. It was alleged that on January 1, 2024, Bryan was caught with a firearm and ammunition in Tahlequah, having been previously convicted of a felony offense that carried a sentence of more than one year. His awareness of his prior conviction made his current charges all the more heinous.
The investigation leading to Bryan’s arrest was a collaborative effort between the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). These agencies demonstrated their commitment to keeping the streets safe by working together to bring this felon back into the justice system.
U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow took Bryan’s guilty plea into account, ordering a presentence investigation report be completed. As of now, Bryan remains in custody under the watchful eye of the United States Marshal Service until his sentencing can be determined.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Edith A. Singer, who represented the interests of the United States with unwavering dedication.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against gun violence in our communities and the tireless efforts of law enforcement to protect the public from such threats.
