Edward Moore Jr, Armed Bank Robbery, North Carolina 2024

RALEIGH – A grim sequence of bank robberies in Fayetteville and Hope Mills, North Carolina, has reached its conclusion with the conviction of Edward Moore Jr. The 30-year-old Fayetteville native was found guilty in federal court following a two-day jury trial before Chief United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle.

Moore faced multiple charges, including interference with commerce by robbery, armed bank robbery, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The jury heard evidence that Moore, during his spree, targeted the One Main Financial Bank in Fayetteville and the Bank of America in Hope Mills twice. In each instance, he fired shots into the ceiling, pointed a gun at customers and employees, and made off with approximately $64,000.

Moore’s sentencing is set for a later date, where he faces a minimum sentence of 75 years imprisonment and a maximum of life in prison. This conviction is part of the Take Back North Carolina Initiative, which focuses on reducing violent crime, drug trafficking, and crimes against law enforcement across the Eastern District of North Carolina.

The investigation into Moore’s criminal activities was a collaborative effort by the Fayetteville Police Department, the Hope Mills Police Department, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Barbara Kocher and Gabriel Diaz represented the government in the prosecution.

Moore’s case is a stark reminder of the violent nature of some criminal elements that continue to plague communities despite law enforcement efforts. The successful outcome of this trial underscores the importance of regional cooperation in tackling such serious crimes.
