Edwin Chavez-Garay, aka ‘Spooky’ and ‘Cruger’, and Jairo Diaz-Gamez, aka ‘Cameleon’ and ‘Antonimo’, MS-13 gang members, were indicted for their involvement in two brutal murders: the 2016 killing of Miguel Garcia-Moran in Brentwood, New York, and the 2023 murder of Carlos Lemus Interiano in Fort Washington, Maryland. The indictment, returned on July 30, 2026, also charges them with racketeering offenses, conspiracy to commit murder, and narcotics trafficking conspiracy. The motives behind the killings are linked to the gang’s violent activities and control of the area.
The indictment is the result of a long-running investigation by the FBI, HSI, and the Suffolk County Police Department. United States Attorney Joseph Nocella stated that the charges demonstrate the commitment to holding transnational organized crime groups like MS-13 accountable for their crimes. The investigation aims to bring justice to the victims’ families and to dismantle the MS-13’s grip on the community.
The MS-13, a violent transnational organization, has been responsible for numerous crimes in the United States, including murders, assaults, and narcotics trafficking. The gang’s activities have had a devastating impact on the communities they operate in, leaving families torn apart by violence and fear. The indictment of Chavez-Garay and Diaz-Gamez is a significant step towards bringing these criminals to justice and making the community safer.
Chavez-Garay and Diaz-Gamez were arraigned in federal court in Central Islip and ordered to be detained pending trial. The case is a reminder of the ongoing struggle against organized crime and the importance of law enforcement agencies working together to protect the community.
