Jose Guadalupe Munoz-Perez, a 46-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced for illegally using a social security number to obtain a Louisiana driver’s license. Munoz-Perez pleaded guilty to the crime, which is a violation of Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B).

On August 12, 2025, United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter sentenced Munoz-Perez to time served. In addition to the sentence, Judge Vitter also ordered Munoz-Perez to serve one year of supervised release and pay a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

According to court documents, Munoz-Perez applied for the renewal of a Louisiana driver’s license using the name and Social Security number of a real person on July 24, 2020. The application was made at a Public Tag Agency in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, an authorized entity that handles various vehicle-related transactions on behalf of the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, cartels, and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). The operation streamlines efforts and resources from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) to protect communities from violent crime.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the Social Security Administration, Office of the Inspector General, in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri of the General Crimes Unit was in charge of the prosecution.
