Nekie Ricks, Cocaine Possession with Intent to Distribute, New York 2022

A Schenectady man has been charged with possessing cocaine with intent to distribute and possessing a firearm in furtherance of that crime.

Nekie Ricks, 31, was ordered detained pending trial after a detention hearing today in Albany.

According to the indictment, on August 24, 2022, Ricks possessed cocaine with the intent to distribute it, possessed a pistol in furtherance of that crime, and possessed that firearm even though he was a previously convicted felon.

The charges filed against Ricks carry a prison term of at least 5 years and up to life, a fine of up to $1 million, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least 3 years and up to life.

Ricks was arraigned yesterday in Albany, before United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel.

ATF is investigating the case with assistance from the Schenectady Police Department and New York State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Wentworth-Ping is prosecuting the case.

The charges in the indictment are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
