SIOUX FALLS – Jaykob Elijah Varner, 25, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was handed a 15 years and six months federal prison sentence today after being convicted of Production of Child Pornography and Cyberstalking. The harsh sentence comes from U.S. District Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange.
Varner’s crime spree, which occurred between August 1, 2023, and April 13, 2024, involved coercion of two juvenile females to send him nude photographs and videos. Varner cyberstalked one girl and threatened to expose her images if she did not comply with his demands. The communications took place via Snapchat.
“This case is a chilling reminder of the online dangers faced by our youth,” said U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell. “Varner’s actions are an extreme example of how predators use technology to exploit innocent victims.”
The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations and DCI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth A. Ebert-Webb handling the prosecution.
Varner has been ordered to pay a special assessment of $200 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and will serve five years of supervised release after his prison term. He was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation. For more information on the program, visit https://www.justice.gov/psc.
