Craig M. Perkins, Methamphetamine Distribution, Missouri 2024

CAPE GIRARDEAU – The grim streets of New Madrid County, Missouri were hit with a heavy blow as Craig M. Perkins, 54, from the small town of Howardville, faces serious charges for methamphetamine distribution. Perkins was indicted in U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau on July 1st, accused of one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Perkins allegedly possessed more than 500 grams of the highly addictive drug on May 21, 2025. The evidence against him is substantial, including a court-approved search that turned up over 1.9 kilograms of meth at his residence and vehicle.

This massive seizure followed a series of buys made by a confidential informant working in collaboration with the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force. The informant’s transactions with Perkins led to the investigation that uncovered the extensive drug network he was alleged to be part of.

Perkins appeared before the court on Tuesday for a detention hearing, where the motion for his continued detention until trial highlighted the gravity of the charges against him. The court is considering keeping this dangerous individual behind bars until he can face justice.

As with all criminal cases, an indictment is merely an accusation and does not prove guilt. However, the charges against Craig M. Perkins are serious, and if proven true, could lead to substantial prison time for the meth dealer.

The investigation into Perkins’ activities was a collaborative effort between various law enforcement agencies. The Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force, Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office, New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol all played critical roles in bringing this case to light. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Shelton is leading the prosecution of this high-profile drug trafficking case.
